Block Printing

Block printing is one of the most satisfying printmaking disciplines — you carve your design, roll ink onto the block, and press it to paper or fabric to produce a print that is uniquely handmade. Every print carries the character of the carved surface in a way no digital process can replicate. Our block printing collection covers everything you need to get started and to develop your practice.

We stock Essdee lino blocks and lino sheets in standard and easy-cut formulas, Essdee lino cutting tools and sets, Caligo Safe Wash relief printing inks (oil-based but washable with water — one of the most accessible printing inks available), and a range of rollers and brayers for inking up your blocks. We also carry foam printing blocks and Essdee starter kits for complete beginners.

Block printing works on paper, fabric, card, and many other surfaces. It is a great introduction to printmaking for all ages — our starter kits include everything needed to produce a first print. All supplies are stocked in our Hebden Bridge shop and available online with UK delivery.
