Small-batch colour making
Wallace Seymour oil colours combine tradition and innovation, using antique pigments alongside native earths and modern artists’ quality pigments across the range. Each colour has its own recipe to give the artist the best possible starting point for painting.
These handmade oil colours are prepared carefully for optimum colour resonance, in small batches of up to one litre. Depending on the individual pigment, colours may be machine ground, prepared in a hand-milling machine or ground by hand using a glass muller.
English cold-pressed linseed oil
The colours are prepared in English cold-pressed linseed oil from a single-estate farm. This golden-yellow oil is free flowing, allowing brush marks to tend to settle out of paint films, and is pressed without added driers.
Drying and medium guidance
Because no drying agents are added, drying times vary with the pigments used. Wallace Seymour suggests adding 10–20% of its Fast Drying Oil Glaze Medium to help balance drying times.
Avoid overusing driers: excessive amounts can cause paint-film failure, including cracking, wrinkling, loss of sheen and excessive darkening.
